Campaigns: Green Party's Dún Laoghaire Baths Campaign

The Green Party has campaigned for the restoration of the Dún Laoghaire Baths for a number of years. Two years ago we initiated a postcard campaign calling on Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council to restore the Baths. However, when the Council unveiled their plans for the Baths site in April 2005 the Green Party campaign strongly against the Council's proposals. We believed the scale of the proposal was inappropriate for the site, the proposal didn't suit the character of the town and we felt that the level of public amenities provided for in the proposed development was inadequate.

Dún Laoghaire Baths decision a victory for local democracy.

“I don’t want to see a high rise proposal on the site, and I don’t want to see infill of ScotsmansBay.”

Opportunity to provide a building that respects the scale of Dún Laoghaire should not be squandered

"Something has to happen to the Dún Laoghaire baths. Undoubtedly the site should be developed, but on a modest scale. The opportunity to provide a building that respects the scale and grain of Dún Laoghaire should not be squandered."

Proposal for Dún Laoghaire Baths is just too large

Restoring the Baths wouldn’t cost the earth, and would provide a wonderful amenity, particularly for children. We feel the current proposal being put forward by the Council is just too large.”

RESTORE DUN LAOGHAIRE BATHS

‘How is it that Dublin City Council can build boardwalks, pedestrian bridges and rebuild swimming baths while Dún Laoghaire Rathdown Council throws up its hands and says the money isn’t there to restore the Baths? '

Postcard Campaign

Green Party have a postcard campaign to restore the Dún Laoghaire Baths.

The Council is planning a new development on the site of the old Dún Laoghaire Baths. It involves infilling several acres on the seafront, a new park and baths, and building apartments to fund the scheme. We’re worried about privatising the site, and the size of the proposal.
