A
Green Party proposal was recently approved by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown
Council to ensure that new homes built in the county are more energy
efficient.
Under this scheme, from next year, new homes will have to be 40%
more energy efficient. That means that they’ll be cheaper to heat
and create less climate change emissions. The proposals also ensure
that 20% of the energy used to heat them will be from renewable
sources. This means builders will have to provide new homes that are
better insulated and better built.
Green Party TD for Dún Laoghaire Ciarán Cuffe
has welcomed the decision of the Council given the increases in the
cost of electricity, home heating oil and gas in recent months.
“Many families are finding it difficult to meet rising energy costs.
These proposals will make sure the quality of newly built homes in
Dún Laoghaire is improved and will reduce heating bills. We also
want to see grants provided to insulate older houses so existing
homeowners can benefit.” |
