GREEN
PARTY SEEKS TREE PRESERVATION ORDER ON O’CONNELL STREET TREES
The
Green Party have proposed that a Tree Preservation Order be drawn up for the
remaining mature trees on O'Connell Street.
"We
want to ensure that the few remaining mature trees be retained" stated
Councillor Ciarán Cuffe today.
Mr.
Cuffe has tabled the following emergency motion for the next City Council
Meeting to be held on 2nd December 2002.
"That
the City Manager prepare a Tree Preparation Order under the Planning and
Development Acts for the remaining mature trees on Upper O_Connell Street, and
that he proceed with the implementation of the rest of the Integrated Area
Plan."
"We
approve of 90 per cent of the Plan for the Street, but we simply wish to ensure
that the older trees are maintained. The Integrated Area Plan showed that trees
would not be knocked until their replacements were planted and this has simply
not been the case"
