GREEN
PARTY CALL FOR CARRICKMINES CASTLE CHANGES
IN WAKE OF JACKSON WAY FLOOD ALLEGATIONS
The
Green Party has called for changes in the route of the M50 motorway in South
Dublin in the light of allegations made at the Flood Tribunal.
The
Party’s Environment Spokesperson Deputy Ciarán Cuffe stated:
“There
now needs to be changes made in the route of the Motorway. The current plans
propose building a major roundabout on top of the remains of Carrickmines
Castle. This size of this roundabout was influenced by the questionable
rezonings of the ‘Jackson Way’ lands. The Minister for Transport Seamus
Brennan should now modify the plans so that the roundabout is reduced or
eliminated.
“A
significant number of county councillors have now been implicated in the murky
rezonings that took place in Dublin County Council. We now want to ensure that
the damage does not extend to a national Monument at Carrickmines Castle.
“The
remains of Carrickmines Castle must not be entombed beneath a motorway
junction.”
