PRESS RELEASE
GREENS
CALL FOR CARRICKMINES CASTLE CHANGES
IN
WAKE OF LATEST ‘JACKSON WAY’ FLOOD
ALLEGATIONS
The
Green Party has called for changes in the route of the M50 motorway
in
South Dublin following the latest allegations made at the Flood Tribunal.
Green
Party Environment spokesperson Ciarán Cuffe T.D. said today, “There now needs
to be changes made in the route of the M50 motorway. A significant number of
county councillors have now been implicated in the murky rezonings that took
place in Dublin County Council concerning the Jackson Way lands and the motorway
route. We now want to ensure
that the damage already done does not extend to a national monument of the
significance of Carrickmines Castle.”
“The
current plans propose building a major roundabout on top of the remains of
Carrickmines Castle. This size of roundabout was influenced by the questionable
rezonings of the Jackson Way lands. The Green Party believe that the Minister for Transport
Seamus Brennan should now step in and modify the plans so that the roundabout is
reduced or eliminated.”
“The
Green Party are insisting that the remains of Carrickmines Castle should not be
entombed beneath a motorway junction.”
