PRESS RELEASE
GREENS
CALL FOR SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS AT KILLER ROUNDABOUT
The Green
Party has called for road improvements to the Mounttown roundabout in Monkstown.
The junction has witnessed many tragic car crashes over the years. Ciarán Cuffe
TD made the call in response to local concerns.
"Sally
Wall was tragically killed in a collision at the roundabout several years ago,
and it is high time that the roundabout was redesigned. There was a serious
crash at the junction recently that damaged the roundabout wall. I have written
to the Director of Traffic in Dún Laoghaire Rathdown Council Mr. Eamon O'Hare
requesting that he redesign the roundabout in conjunction with the upgrading of
Kill Avenue for the Quality Bus Corridor and cycle path.”
"We
are suggesting that the wall surrounding the centre of the roundabout be removed
as it increases the danger when an accident occurs. We also want to see the
junction made safer for pedestrians and cyclists.”
The
roundabout is located beside the Dún Laoghaire Golf Club at the junction of
Kill Avenue, Oliver Plunkett Road, Highthorn Park and Glenageary Road Upper.
