GREEN TD’S CELEBRATE EUROPEAN CAR FREE DAY
The objective of European
Car Free Day has been to highlight the benefits of
sustainable modes of transport in terms of improving mobility around towns
and cities, as well as reducing pollution and addressing the ominous side
affects of climate change.
European Car Free Day was
the initiative of the Green Party Minister for the Environment in France,
Mlle. Dominique Voynet in 1998 and it has grown annually to involve an estimated 100 million
people in 37 countries across Europe in 2002.
To celebrate European Car Free Day the
six Green Party TD’s will cycle into Dáil Eireann on Monday, 22nd
September 2003 at 11 am.
