PRESS RELEASE
GREENS
CALL FOR RETURN OF NUMBER EIGHT BUS TO TACKLE DART CHAOS
The
Green Party has called for the restoration of the Number Eight bus service in
order to tackle the chaos arising from upgrading of the DART network In South
Dublin and Dún Laoghaire. The Party has also called for the 'fast-tracking ' of
a Quality Bus Corridor (QBC) along the Rock Road and Monkstown Road through Dún
Laoghaire and beyond.
"The
DART upgrading project has turned into a nightmare for the travelling
public", stated Green Party TD for Dún Laoghaire Ciarán Cuffe. "The
way forward is to provide a reliable and efficient alternative to the DART at
weekends when the DART is not running.
“I
have written this afternoon to the County Manager of Dún Laoghaire Rathdown
County Council asking him to provide a QBC as a matter of urgency.”
"We
want the Local Authorities and Dublin Bus to commit themselves to providing a
QBC along the roads adjacent to the DART line for the duration of the project.
We also believe that the restoring of the number eight bus would assist people
in travelling between Dalkey and Dún Laoghaire. Such a bus service should also
link Dalkey along the coast to Killiney, Shankill and Bray."
