Party calls for Proper Planning in Deansgrange
The Green Party has called
for proper planning for one of the well-known villages of South Dublin. It has
made a submission to Dún-Laoghaire Rathdown County Council for the Local Area
Plan for Deansgrange.
Local Dún Laoghaire TD Ciarán
Cuffe (GP) said: “This is a great opportunity for the area. We want local
residents to have a say in its future development. The Green Party’s
submission is our contribution to the process.
Councillor Kealin Ireland
(GP) stated: “The Plan has to be approved by the County Council. When the
draft is prepared there will be another opportunity for people to have their
say. Many people are concerned at the proposals for the Bank of Ireland Site,
and although planning permission has been granted for a development there, we
want to ensure that any further changes bring benefits to the area.
The Green Party’s
submission proposes that access by cars to Deansgrange Cemetery should be
restricted in order to foster a calm and tranquil atmosphere.
The submission says that all
new buildings should not significantly overlook or overshadow existing homes and
buildings.
It calls for the village
centre to be made more ‘pedestrian friendly’ so that older people and
parents with buggies can find their way around the neighbourhood easier. It has
also called for a new playground to be provided by the Local Authority.
It has also called for Tree
Protection Orders to be put in place for any outstanding existing mature trees
in the area. Some of these trees are under threat from new development proposals
in the area.
