The Green Party has welcomed the long-delayed publication of the Second

Annual Report of the Inspector of Prisons and Places of Detention for 2003.

The Party has praised Dermot Kinlen, the Inspector of Prisons and Places

of Detention for his extremely candid report.



Green Party Justice Spokesperson Ciarán Cuffe stated. “Mr. Kinlen has

written a candid report that demands immediate action. An external review

of the management of the Prison Service is now urgently required.”



“The allocation of responsibilities; the mantra of secrecy and the control

and the competency of senior officials must all be examined. I believe that

sweeping changes are urgently required”, concluded Mr. Cuffe.
