Dublin City Council must take action to protect 1916 House

The Green Party has called on Dublin City Council to issue a notice under the Derelict Sites Act 1990 instructing the owners of 16 Moore Street to maintain the building.

Local Authorities have the power under this Act to instruct the owners of buildings to carry out works to prevent the building from becoming derelict. If the owner of the building does not carry out the works, the Local Authority can step in and to carry out any necessary works.

Green Party Heritage spokesperson Ciarán Cuffe TD said today that, “Dublin City Council must now take action to ensure that 16 Moore Street is protected.”

“This building is part of everyone's heritage. It is part of our history, and was the building where the 1916 leaders finally surrendered. It must be kept for future generations.”
