‘Jolly
Green Giants’ ‘Glasghruagaigh
Ghealgháireacha’ – featuring Green Party TDs Eamon Ryan, Paul Gogarty and
Ciarán Cuffe - look like a force to be reckoned with in the Sports Against
Racism Ireland (SARI) soccerfest in the Phoenix Park at 10.30am this Saturday 17
September 2005 at the Gardaí
and Camogie sports ground.
SARI
is an organisation set up in 1997 which seeks to use sporting events to promote
positive attitudes towards Ireland’s increasing multiculturalism.
The
Jolly Green Giants squad which includes the three Green Party TDs looks set to
provide difficult opposition for the other teams in their group - the Finglas
Travellers, Gill and Eritrea.
Green
Party Justice spokesperson Ciarán Cuffe TD said that, “the SARI
soccerfest is a great way of promoting tolerance and integration in Ireland. I
am very confident in the Jolly Green Giants’ abilities.”
“I
think the other sides in our group will be aware of the Jolly Green Giants’
reputation for providing tough opposition and creating problems for whoever we
come up against”.
