Green Party Calls for Clean-up of Woodbrook Glen
The Green Party has called for a clean up by the Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council of a drinking den in the heart of theWoodbrook Glen Park.
Local Green Party TD Ciarán Cuffe TD received a tour of the neighbourhood recently. His colleagues Cllr. Tom Kivlehan, who represents the area, and Cllr. Ciaran O’Brien of Bray Town Council joined him. They also met with Brendan Garvey of the Woodbrook Glen Residents Association.
Deputy Cuffe stated:
“We were taken aback by what we saw. One section of the park had become a drinking den with discarded chairs and cans scattered all over the area. We need to see a clean up of the area. The Park is a wonderful amenity, but unfortunately there needs to be action taken to stop this kind of damage from occurring.”
Cllr. Tom Kivlehan said:
“I have contacted the County Council and received assurances from the Parks Department that a clean-up will be carried out before Halloween. We want to work with the residents to ensure that entry to the Park is carefully controlled, and that anti-social behaviour does not occur. It’s far too easy for motorbikes to gain access to the park at the moment. I’d also like to see the Gardai in the area on Mountain Bikes, but I am told that Shankill Garda Station is waiting for approval for bikes from the Department of Justice”
Cllr. Ciaran O’Brien pointed out that there is a need for greater amenities for young people. He said:
“There isn’t even a swimming pool available to the public in the entire town of Bray. We need to provide amenities so that young people have something to do with their time.”
