Ten
Steps to a Greener Christmas!

-
Don't forget your
Reuseable Bag when Christmas Shopping! Remember it by keeping one near
the front door.
-
Reduce Waste -
Try to minimise packaging when buying gifts - think before you buy
and think before you throw away!
-
Reuse - Don't
just throw it away. Keep food containers that can be used for
storage and freezing. Give unwanted clothes, toys and books to
charity. Save wrapping paper to use again next year.
-
Recycle - Try
to buy Christmas cards and wrapping paper made from recycled paper.
You should also look out for gifts made from recycled materials.
-
Old Christmas
Trees - Bring your tree to the specified sites where it will be
shredded and composted. Visit
www.dlrcoco.ie for further information.
-
Party Time -
Make sure you buy reuseable party items such as cups, plates, napkins
and decorations. They may cost a little more but will save you money
in the long term and create less waste.
-
After the Party -
Bring all bottles, jars and plastic bottles to your nearest recycling
centre. Put newspapers, wrapping paper, cardboard, biscuit tins,
drinks cans, food cans and tetra paks in your green bin. Most
items are accepted in the Civic Recycling Centre at Ballyogan.
-
Compost - 30%
of household waste is made up of organic material that will break down into
garden compost. You can buy a composter from the County Council or
your local hardware shop.
-
Battery Recycling
- You can recycle your batteries at the following locations:
County Hall, Dún Laoghaire, Dundrum Council Office, Cabinteely Library,
Monkstown Pool or Ballyogan Recycling Centre. Buy rechargable
batteries for new toys/gadgets.
-
Your New Years
Resolution - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!
Wishing you a very Happy Christmas and peaceful New Year.
