Local Green Party
TD Ciarán Cuffe travelled to London to view the energy efficient,
low cost design.
Ciarán Cuffe, Dún Laoghaire Green Party TD said, “I congratulate
Kingspan Century on designing this smart two bedroom home which can
be constructed at an affordable price”.
“The provision of affordable housing is a huge problem all over
Ireland. In Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown the numbers on the housing
waiting list have trebled over the last ten years and now over 3800
people are waiting to be housed”.
“Why do we have to travel to London to see the kind of solutions
that are needed here? We need action from our Government to deal on
our social and affordable housing crisis. Sadly this government has
failed to address the problem. It is amazing that this €90,000 home
is also much more energy efficient than the type of housing that we
are building here.”
“However, it will be a major boost to local authorities if
homebuilders can come up with innovative solutions for providing
affordable housing. That is why this new design from Kingspan
Century is so welcome. It would be great if other homebuilders
followed suit and designed smart, low cost housing that could help
deal with our local and national housing crisis”.
“Maybe the Irish Government could initiate a similar competition to
stimulate the development of high quality, low cost home designs
here in Ireland” concluded Deputy Cuffe.
