The Green Party
has today called on the Government to introduce legislation as a
matter of urgency, which will outlaw the trafficking of people,
including children, in Ireland.
"On today, International Missing Children's Day, it is shocking that
we are still waiting for laws to criminalise the trafficking of
children to be introduced in Ireland," said Green Party Justice
spokesperson Ciarán Cuffe TD today.
"The protection and promotion of children's rights is a key priority
for the Green Party. We must do our utmost to protect vulnerable
minors from violence and the horrors of human trafficking.
It is unacceptable that this Government has dragged its feet on this
vital issue. We are therefore calling for the immediate introduction
of legislation to meet our obligation under the EU Framework
Decision on combating trafficking in human beings," concluded Deputy
Cuffe. |
