Cuffe raises the Green Flag at Aravon School

Aravon School at Rathmichael in South Dublin raised the Green Flag on Friday 26th May. The Primary school invited their local Green Party TD Ciarán Cuffe to hoist the flag.

While at the school Ciarán was given a tour of the school garden which provides fresh vegetable for the children’s lunches. Eamonn de Buitlear the well-known filmmaker also toured the school and introduced the children to the world of birdsong.

Green Party Environment spokesperson Ciarán Cuffe TD stated:
“The Green Schools Programme is a fantastic way of introducing young people to green issues. When children see recycling in action in their classrooms it shows them that environmental issues can be tackled at a local level.

“The Environmental movement has always said that we should ‘think globally and act locally’. This is an inspiring and uplifting example of making the world a better place at a local level.

Ciarán Cuffe thanked geography teacher Catherine McGillicuddy, headmaster Kevin Allwright and the Green Schools committee at Aravon who undertook Trojan work in putting in place recycling and composting facilities at the school. He also complimented An Taisce for their contribution to promoting the Green Schools Programme.
