Green Party welcomes debate on future of Blackrock Baths

 - states that public consultation is crucial

The Green Party has welcomed the presentation of a discussion document regarding the future of the derelict Blackrock Baths in South Dublin. The document was presented by the Dún Laoghaire County Manager Owen Keegan to local councillors at a meeting yesterday.

The Green Party has stated that any proposal for development must address the unsightly surface car park between the town and the seafront.

Local Green Party TD Ciarán Cuffe stated:  “We welcome the unveiling of a discussion document produced by HKR Architects on behalf of the site’s owners. Public consultation is crucial and we believe that all options should be debated.

“We would like to see sea-baths provided at the site, but we are concerned at the proposal to place a new bridge across the railway at Idrone Terrace and place apartments on the site of the former Baths. We’d also like to see improved pedestrian access from the railway station to Blackrock Park.”

Local Green Party Councillor Nessa Childers stated: “We want to see the dereliction addressed, but any development on the seaward side of the DART line would need to be of excellent design quality. At this stage we have only seen outline plans prepared on behalf of the developers.

“We also want to see the plans for the Sutton to Sandycove cycleway around Dublin Bay advanced, and believe that there is an ideal opportunity to incorporate the route into any development at the Baths site.”
