Green Party TD
Ciarán Cuffe has called on Dublin City Council and Dún Laoghaire
Rathdown not to grant planning permission to O'Mahony Finnerty New
Homes to construct a fourteen storey apartment building. The site
which is on the border between the two local authorities requires
planning permission from both local authorities.
Local Green Party
TD, Ciarán Cuffe
said, “The site is not designated as being suitable for a tall
building in Dublin City Council’s Managing Intensification and
Change – A Strategy for
Dublin Building Height.
Dún
Laoghaire Rathdown County Council are currently conducting their own
building height study and it would wrong to approve any such
building prior to the publication of that report”
“If permission
were granted for this development it would be the tallest building
in Dún Laoghaire Rathdown. The old Shell Garage site on the Rock
Road / Merrion Road is completely inappropriate location for a very
tall apartment block”.
“The proposed
apartment block is in very close proximity to two storey
semi-detached houses in Trimleston and is completely out of
character with surrounding communities”.
“The County does
require higher density housing in some areas but skyscrapers lumped
in among two storey residential communities is simply not good
planning”, concluded Deputy Cuffe |
