Environmental protection targets must be prioritised - Cuffe

The Green Party has said it will support new targets set out by the Environmental Protection Agency in its strategy entitled 2020 Vision: Protecting and Improving Ireland's Environment which was launched today.

Green Party Environment spokesperson Ciarán Cuffe TD said: "This strategy is welcome. It sets out a vision for Ireland's environment as well as the actions the Environmental Protection Agency must make to achieve this vision.

"The Director of the EPA, Dr Mary Kelly, said that she wants her agency to be a 'proactive environmental champion', and the Green Party supports this move. The Green Party in Government would give priority to these targets to ensure that they are not put on the long finger."
