Publication of the Dublin Transportation Authority Bill a welcome
development
Green Party
Transport Spokesperson Ciarán Cuffe today welcomed the publication
of the Dublin Transport Authority Bill 2008, which will lead the of
the establishment of the Dublin Transport Authority
Deputy Cuffe said: “The establishment of a Transport Authority for
Dublin is long overdue. We have had a serious deficiency in the
coordination and delivery of public transport in the greater Dublin
area over the past number of years. Simple things like integrated
ticketing, real time bus passenger information are measures that
improve confidence in a public transport system. I hope the
co-ordination and ‘step in’ powers afforded to the DTA will enable
them to deliver on projects like these efficiently.
“Delivering good quality public transport goes hand in hand with
good planning and I am glad to see the DTA’s transport strategy will
have to be consistent with planning guidelines”
“I think it is also crucial that public transport is made a top
priority over the next few years and that public transport
infrastructure that will give the commuter an alternative to private
car use is delivered as soon as possible”
