Retention of Mixed use aspects of Elm
Park Development welcome – Green Party
Green Party TD for
Dún Laoghaire Ciarán Cuffe and local Green Party Councillor Nessa
Childers today welcomed the decision by Dublin City Council to
refuse a change of use planning application by Radora Developments
on the Elm Park site on the Merrion Road. The application which
sought to add 22,000 square metres of office space to supplement the
30,000 square metres already granted permission by changing the
granting of permission for a hotel and a hospital to more office
space.
Deputy Cuffe said “I’m glad the Council have decided to retain the
mixed use elements of the Elm Park site by refusing permission for
yet more office space.
In my submission to the Council I pointed out that if permission was
granted, it would detract from the overall social and amenity value
of the site by removing the community aspects a hospital and hotel
would bring. More office space would have also caused additional
parking and traffic pressure on the surrounding roads, which is a
real concern for local residents. I feel large mixed use
developments should be compatible with surrounding areas and I am
glad the Council have taken these points on board”
Local Green Party Councillor Nessa Childers said “the hotel and
hospital were granted planning permission on the basis of providing
environmental amenities and a change to the use of to offices would
have been contrary to the zoning objectives for the area. I’m glad
local residents’ concerns about losing such amenities have been met”
