Mr. Cuffe asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he plans to grant permission for the removal of part of the national monument at Carrickmines, specifically the stone-faced medieval ditch, to facilitate construction of the M50 motorway; and if he is considering alternative alignments for the roadway.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 700 and 725 together.

I have received a draft of an application from Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council for joint consent under section 14 of the National Monuments Act 1930, as amended, in relation to works on the south eastern motorway at Carrickmines. I am now addressing this matter having regard to the statutory considerations involved and will determine it following due assessment of all relevant issues.
