The Senior Engineer

From Ciarán Cuffe TD,
Green Party, Dún Laoghaire

Re. Quality Bus Corridors, Blackrock and Dundrum - Blackrock

Dear Madam / Sir,

I request that the following issues be taken into consideration during the design process of the above projects.

Introduction

The Green Party supports the proposed Quality Bus Corridors, cycle facilities and safety improvements. However we ask that the views of residents and businesses be taken into consideration in the design process .

Retention of Existing Trees

The retention of mature trees along the routes of the proposed Quality Bus Corridors should be a priority. If necessary, the width of car lanes should be reduced if required to achieve this.

Residents Car Parking

Residents’ car parking should be retained at or close to the existing locations.

Grassed Areas

Grassed areas should be retained wherever possible.

Cycle Paths

Every effort should be taken to reduce the amount of changes in vertical alignment of the proposed route

Cycle Parking

Adequate numbers of ‘Sheffield’ type cycle parking stands should be provided at all appropriate locations including bus stops and shops

Cycle Lane

A contra-flow cycle lane should be provided Southbound along the Main Street and Newtown Avenue in Blackrock from the junction with Carysfort Avenue in the centre of Blackrock via Newtown Avenue as far as Seapoint Avenue. This could assist the aims of the ‘S2S’ (Sutton to Sandycove) cycle route project (www.s2s.ie)

Cycle and Pedestrian Safety

We request that every effort be taken to reduce corner curve radii, provide raised entry treatment at junctions, and advanced stop lines for cyclists so as to improve pedestrian and cyclist safety along the routes.

Businesses with frontage on proposed routes

Customer Cycle and Car Parking should be provided as close as possible to such businesses.

We ask that this submission be acknowledged,

Sincerely,

Ciarán Cuffe TD
