Greens call for urgent EU action to halt Gaza escalation

News

The European Green Party strongly condemns the Israeli government plans to expand its occupation of Gaza and for the mass forced displacement of the Gazan population.

Vula Tsetsi, co-chair of the European Green Party, said:

“The Israeli government has claimed that their forcible displacement of the Gazan population is ‘to protect them’. Let us not be fooled. This is a war crime. Further military escalation would lead to more Palestinian deaths, worsening of the humanitarian crisis, and increased suffering for the Palestinian population, who are already enduring devastating conditions. The European Union must go beyond words and immediately discuss targeted sanctions against those responsible for such grave violations.”

EGP co-chair Ciarán Cuffe added:

“Immediate action is necessary in Israel and Gaza to uphold international law, protect civilians, and prevent a worsening of the unfolding humanitarian disaster. We call on the EU to take urgent and concrete measures to halt this escalation. This includes demanding an immediate ceasefire and halt to any new offensive, and continuing to pressure Israel to allow full humanitarian access to Gaza.”
