Vula Tsetsi, Co-Chair of the European Green Party, said: “The Israeli government's announcement that it will occupy one-tenth of Lebanese territory constitutes a serious and unacceptable violation of international law. The European Union must respond with clarity and determination, mere expressions of concern are not enough and can only fuel further escalation. Civilians are once again paying the highest price, with a rising death toll and over one million people displaced in precarious conditions. Europe cannot remain a bystander. It must act now to push for de-escalation, protect civilians, and ensure accountability.’

Ciarán Cuffe, Co-Chair of the European Green Party, added:

“what we are seeing in Lebanon is the Gaza playbook being replicated on Lebanese soil: attack, destroy, occupy. We are horrified by the destruction of civilian infrastructure; medical professionals being targeted and children being injured and killed by Israeli attacks. The EU must respond with far greater clarity and determination, using all diplomatic and political tools available to push for de-escalation and accountability. The protection of civilians must be the absolute priority, and international law must be respected.’
